This website (Otherworld.fi) collects the following personal information: email address and username when you register an account. If you don’t register an account, then currently the system only gathers generic data like your IP address and type of browser.
Why we collect personal data: The legal basis of collecting generic data like IP address and browser information is legitimate interests. The basis of collecting data from registered users (email address, username) is consent. When you register an account, you consent to your information being stored on the server. If you do not consent to your data being collected, do not provide it. Providing a valid email address is voluntary. It’s possible to register with an unconfirmed email address. The website asks users to provide a valid email address for the purpose of restoring a lost password. If you do not provide a valid email address and forget your password, you lose access to your account.
The purpose of a username is to provide a shorter handle you can type instead of an email address, to differentiate users from each other, and to provide a handle to address the user in emails. The username is not assumed to be your real name. We ask that you do not reveal any extra information while playing the game.
The game allows users to write chat messages and custom describe items. These texts provided should not contain any information pertaining to the real world. If any such information is discovered, it will be deleted as soon it’s discovered. Likewise, characters should not be named after real world people.
When you provide your email address, you may occasionally be sent emails concerning the status of the game or your account. This is not considered marketing, because we are not selling anything. The service is provided free of charge. If you object to being sent these emails, reply to the email with “unsubscribe” or similar, and you will be excluded from future messages. Password retrieval emails and such are automated messages provided for your convenience. They are only sent when requested by the account holder.
Cookies may be stored on your device for the purpose of keeping track of which information has already been shown, so that information won’t be shown repeatedly in a way that would inconvenience the user. Optionally, the user may store their preferences by using a cookie. There are no third-party cookies.
This website does not knowingly gather data from persons under the age of 13. If you are under the age of 13, you are not eligible to register an account. If you do so anyway and this is discovered later, your data is subject to immediate removal.
Personal data is stored in a database hosted by zoner.fi. Backup copies are stored in OneDrive, which has servers outside the EU. Personal data is stored as long as Otherworld.fi continues to be operational and up to 5 years afterwards. If your account is inactive and it appears unlikely that you will be returning, your personal data may be removed sooner than this. Likewise, if it appears that a user misspelled their email address during registration and is unable to access the account due to this, the account may be purged if the user does not contact the administrator and provide the correct email address. Inactive accounts may be completely deleted or pseudonymized, so that they can no longer be connected to a person.
Personal information is not shared with any third parties.
Email addresses and usernames are collected in the form they are provided by the users. If the user realizes that that they provided the wrong email address, they should inform the administrator if they are unable to correct it themselves. Accounts belong to the rightful owner of the email address attached to it, regardless of who created the account. If a person registers with an email address that belongs to another person, the first person forfeits all rights to that account.
Logging into the account requires a valid password. If a password is lost, the user may reset the password, provided that their email address is valid. If it’s not, and the user cannot prove their rightful ownership through other means, the account will remain inaccessible. Users are expected to keep their password a secret and not share it with any third parties. A user is assumed responsible for any activities done with their credentials.
If a data breach is detected, affected users will be informed by email.
Users have the following rights:
Right to access: The user can see the data collected from them on the Settings page when logged in.
Right to rectification: If you notice an error with your data, in general, you should be able to correct it yourself through the Settings page when logged in. If you are unable to use the Settings page, contact the administrator and provide the correct information and ask for the incorrect information to be corrected.
Right to erasure: If you wish to delete your data, contact the administrator (the contact information is at the bottom of the document). Requests are handled within 14 days.
Right to not be subject to automated decision-making: There is no automatic decision-making on this website.
